Villages around Lake Eucumbene
Old Adaminaby
In 1876, the area now known as Old Adaminaby (7km from 'new' Adaminaby) was the only place between Cooma and Kiandra where there was a post store, with mail being brought to the town by pack-horse.
Today, the waters of Lake Eucumbene cover much of the old town, but when the water level drops, many foundations resurface and can be explored. Old Adaminaby has a range of accommodation options for the holiday maker and, with boating and fishing at your door, it is a wonderful place to visit.
Anglers Reach
Anglers Reach is a small residential community on the northern shores of Lake Eucumbene. Anglers Reach offers year-round activities with trout fishing a favourite amongst visitors. Boat hire is available locally, together with fishing tackle. In winter, skiers flock to the area and stay in a variety of local accommodation.
Providence Portal
Situated on the northern shores of Lake Eucumbene, and within the Kosciuszko National Park, Providence Portal is only 40 minutes from Cooma and 10 minutes from Adaminaby. Also, being just 26km from Selwyn Snowfields (the closest accommodation to the ski resort) Providence Portal is an ideal base to ski, fish or explore the National Park.
The Eucumbene River flows into Lake Eucumbene at Providence Portal, so does the outflow pipe from the nearby Tantangara Dam. The tunnel is 16.6km long. Due to low lake levels, there is currently no water at Providence Portal (apart from the river).
Buckenderra
Buckenderra is located on the eastern shore of Lake Eucumbene. It has some of the most accessible water on the lake and with Cooma and Jindabyne only a short drive away, Buckenderra is the ideal location for snow skiers in the winter months.
Braemar Bay
On the southern shores of Lake Eucumbene and approximately 4km from the Eucumbene Dam Wall, Braemar Bay is an ideal base to explore the Kosciuszko National Park.
For the angler, Braemar Bay provides great fishing and the area is well known as one of the best spots to land a nice brown.
Braemar Bay is located 180km from Canberra via the Monaro Highway.
